United Way Community Investment Volunteers Needed

Are you passionate about improving the lives of people?  Are you interested in learning more about local programs that work to make a difference in the lives of local people?  If YES, this may be the perfect opportunity for you!

United Way of Southwest Minnesota (UWSWMN) needs a limited number of volunteers to help review Community Impact Grant applications submitted by local nonprofit organizations requesting program funding for 2022-23. This is an exciting and influential volunteer opportunity for local people to learn more about programs in our service area while having input as to how funds raised in our most recent campaign are invested.

Community Impact Grants are the main way United Way of Southwest Minnesota invests donations back into our communities. United Way fights for the health, education and financial stability of every person in every community. In southwest Minnesota, we focus on health, education, financial stability, hunger and safety & well-being. Programs awarded funding work to improve the lives of local people in Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Yellow Medicine and portions of Cottonwood, Lac qui Parle, Nobles and Redwood counties in Minnesota.

Selected volunteers will be assigned to teams to assess applications including each programs’ plans and goals, metrics and results, and financial management.  They will also meet with program representatives to learn more and ask any additional questions they may have.  Based on this information, teams will submit their reviews and recommendations for funding for each program that has applied.  These recommendations for funding will then go to the UWSWMN Board of Directors in late June.

Those selected to serve as community investment volunteers are required to attend a one-time training facilitated by UWSWMN. The training will be held on Thursday, April 21st from 3:30pm-5:00 pm via Zoom.  Grant application reviews will take place April 28th- May 20th at the convenience of each panel.

If you are interested in this volunteer opportunity, are available to attend the training on April 21st and live in the UWSWMN service area, please submit your application by visiting UnitedWaySWMN.org/GRVolunteer.  Volunteer applications are due no later than April 1, 2022. If you have any questions, please reach out to our office at 507-929-2273 or UnitedWay@UnitedWaySWMN.org.
