True Light Christian School has been granted $3,000 by the United Way of Southwest Minnesota (UWSWMN) as a community impact grant for the construction of their new playground. This funding will assist in providing a much-needed space for children to engage in physical play, improve their gross motor skills, cardiovascular health, and ability to resolve conflicts. The playground will also be open to the public, allowing children in the community and beyond to enjoy it outside of school hours.
UWSWMN makes a difference in the lives of local people in our service area by investing in programs focused on Youth Opportunity, Healthy Communities, Financial Security and Community Resilience. Our service area includes the communities in Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Yellow Medicine, and portions of Cottonwood, Lac qui Parle, Nobles, and Redwood counties of Minnesota.
The primary method through which UWSWMN invests donations into our communities is by awarding Community Impact Grants. Local volunteers play a crucial role in this process by reviewing funding requests and working together to make funding recommendations to our board of directors. During the funding cycle of 2025-26, programs dedicated to enhancing the lives of local people were awarded a total of $200,000.
