The Refuge Emergency Shelter Program Receives Community Impact Grant.

The Refuge Emergency Shelter Program of the United Community Action Partnership has received a community impact grant from the United Way of Southwest Minnesota (UWSWMN) for $19,500.  These funds will help to provide short-term temporary housing and services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.  This program works with clients to develop a long-term housing stability, self-sufficiency, and independence plan.  This work aligns with UWSWMN's financial stability priority area.

UWSWMN makes a difference in the lives of local people by investing in programs focused on the health, education, financial stability, hunger, and safety & well-being of people living in our service area.  Our service area includes the communities we serve in Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Yellow Medicine, and portions of Minnesota's Cottonwood, Lac qui Parle, Nobles, and Redwood counties.

Community impact grants are the primary way UWSWMN invests donations into our communities.  The community impact grant process involves local volunteers who help review funding requests and collaborate to make funding recommendations to our board of directors.  For the 2023-24 funding cycle, a total of $212,000 was awarded to programs working to improve the lives of local people.
