The Refuge Emergency Shelter Program receives Community Impact Grant

CIG PhotoThe Refuge Emergency Shelter Program of United Community Action Partnership has been awarded a community impact grant from the United Way of Southwest Minnesota (UWSWMN) for $19,500.  These funds will be used to provide short-term temporary housing and services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.  This program works with clients to develop a plan for long-term housing stability, self-sufficiency and independence.  This work aligns with UWSWMN’s financial stability priority area.

UWSWMN makes a difference in the lives of local people by investing in programs focused on the health, education, financial stability, hunger, and safety & well-being of people living in our service area.  Our service area includes the communities we serve in Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Yellow Medicine, and portions of Cottonwood, Lac qui Parle, Nobles, and Redwood counties in Minnesota.

Community impact grants are the primary way UWSWMN invests donations into our communities.  The community impact grant process involves local volunteers who help review funding requests and collaborate to make funding recommendations to our board of directors.  For the 2022-23 funding cycle, a total of $212,822 has been awarded to programs working to improve the lives of local people.
