Have you been following along this month on our social media accounts? If so, you’ve noticed we’ve had the SMSU Mustang Men’s basketball team and head coach reading multiple times per week. This adventure is our way of celebrating (during a pandemic) literacy and sponsoring the Read for the Record program in our service area for 10 years!
In case you missed what Read for the Record is all about, read this recent article to learn more: https://www.unitedwayswmn.org/celebrating-10-years-read-record-southwest-minnesota
Education is one of our five priority areas that we provide funding to programs that improve life-long learning and development throughout our service area. A few examples of local programming lead by UWSWMN include: Imagination Library, Stuff the Bus, Student Emergency Fund Grants and Born Learning Trails. ServeMN’s Reading Corps program is an example of another program that received funding in 2020-21 from UWSWMN to provide reading tutors in local schools.
Investing in education is vital for our communities to continue growing and in building the foundation of a good life for every person in every community.
