November, that's a wrap!

November was a GREAT month! I really enjoyed my visits at the food shelves in the following communities: Tracy, Marshall and Lake Benton.   We produced two powerful videos about these sites and their dedicated staff and volunteers.  If you haven’t seen them yet, I encourage you to visit our Facebook page or You Tube channel to watch them.

I’ve been stopping by businesses throughout our service area that have supported us in the past to thank them for their support of our mission.  Those visits in November brought me to Marshall, Cottonwood, Hanley Falls, Granite Falls, Tyler and Slayton.  I still have more on my list to visit!

Kindness Week was a fun change of pace.  I enjoyed doing kind acts and included my kids in this as well.  A few things we did at United Way included: our gift card drive (to purchase hygiene items), self-care kit distribution and diaper/wipe distribution.  The gift cards along with diapers/wipes were distributed to local human service providers.

UWSWMN developed the self-care kit idea and directed funds to support this project. Approximately 575 are in the process of being distributed at fitness centers throughout our area service with the intent for folks to work on their overall wellness.

Our friends from Bremer Bank also stopped by this month with Home for Good kits. The kits are filled with essential household supplies and local Marshall employee’s added tie blankets.   The kits were given to The Refuge of United Community Action Partnership which is an emergency shelter program offered in Lyon County.  We were excited to be a part of this innovative project to build stronger communities!

As you can see, November was another fantastic month.  Don’t forget to support local—we have so many wonderful businesses and restaurants throughout our service area that have much to offer.

Until next time,
