The United Way of Southwest Minnesota is a recipient of a $1,000 grant from Lyon-Lincoln Electric Cooperative’s Operation RoundUp Trust Fund and the member-owners of the cooperative to support the Stuff the Bus initiative. The Operation RoundUp program is supported by the member-owners of Lyon-Lincoln Electric Cooperative as a way to strengthen local communities and programs in the cooperative’s service territory. The Operation RoundUp grant will support students in grades K-12 at 13 school districts within the Lyon-Lincoln Electric Cooperative’s territory this fall.
Stuff the Bus engages dozens of volunteers to collect, sort, pack and distribute supplies and backpacks to elementary, middle and high school students. Stuff the Bus means that students can create and learn to their full potential without the worry that they don’t have the basic tools needed to reach their academic goals. In 2018, United Way of Southwest Minnesota provided 67,003 school supplies to nearly 4,000 students attending 23 area schools. Of those 67,003 school supplies, 33,719 were provided to schools within the Lyon-Lincoln Service area impacting approximately 2,344 students.
