  • Help is only a call away with United Way's 211 hotline. Call 2-1-1 for a list of local resources. Free, confidential information and referrals, available 24/7 in 150 languages.


  • United Way Gift Card Drive: We are accepting gift cards to local businesses that provide hygiene items - such as grocery and hardware stores, dollar stores, and gas stations. Gift cards to local restaurants and monetary donations (note "hygiene drive" in memo line) are also welcome. Please mail all gift cards/funds to our office (PO Box 41, Marshall, MN 56258) by April 20th and we will sort and mail them to various local human services providers. Let's help our community members and business owners during this unknown time.
  • Southwest Health and Human Services: Apply for health care assistance online at Call SWHHS in your area or visit for assistance.

  • Character Playbook is a free educational resource from the NFL and United Way geared toward middle schoolers. It supports mental wellness and healthy character development. Click here to access.
  • Scholastic is providing a free "Learn at Home" curriculum with activities specific to each grade level. Click here to access.
  • Youth Development Program - Lyon County: All youth development group meetings are canceled until further notice. Little Buddies and their Big Buddies may still meet at their own discretion. Staff is working to conduct groups electronically. More information to come. 507-537-1416


  • Free Tax Clinic: All tax clinic locations are closed until at least April 1st. The are currently working on a drop-off method, but are awaiting IRS guidance. There is a 90 day extension for having to pay taxes owed, so they may be extending their season as well. More information to come. 507-532-3131

  • The Refuge - Lyon County: Still serving clients as usual, but doing as much work as possible over the phone. People who are unable to meet via phone will still be seen by staff. 507-537-1416


  • Many local schools are providing meals to children while school is closed. If you have questions, contact your child's school directly for specific information and procedures.
  • Esther's Kitchen - Marshall, MN: Offering to-go meals. For daily updates, call 612-377-9810.
  • Hy-Vee - Marshall, MN: Customers age 60+, expectant mothers, and anyone with underlying health conditions can shop from 7:00-8:00 a.m. All other shoppers please visit during new store hours, 8 a.m.-8 p.m. 507-532-2247
  • Kitchen Table Food Shelf - Marshall, MN: Outside pickup services only. The food shelf will be open during its regular days and hours (M, W, F 12:30-4:15 p.m.). Workers will do the shopping. Clients will be given a shopping list and a serving number. Clients should knock on the white door. People using public transportation should call ahead (507-537-1416) and a box will be ready upon arrival. 
  • Lutheran Social Services: Currently offering shelf stable emergency meals and frozen meals for curbside pickup, as well as Meals on Wheels delivery in the following LSS Bistro and Meals on Wheels locations for those ages 60+:

  • Yellow Medicine County Senior Meal Program: Prairie Five Community Action Partnership congregate meal sites are closed. They are delivering frozen and shelf stable meals. 320-269-9009


  • Crime Victim Services: New Horizons Crisis Center staff are available but doors are locked. When program participants call the local offices, they will be screened for COVID-19 and after screening, Crime Victim Services may be provided in person, via telephone, or via video conferencing.   • Parenting Time Program: This will either proceed as scheduled or be canceled. Contact New Horizons Crisis Center at 507-706-0162.
  • Domestic Abuse Services: WoMen's Rural Advocacy services will be provided through electronic means, unless staff deems it's essential to meet individuals involving face-to-face contact. The resource rooms will be open to meet individual immediate needs but items will be gathered by the staff and set out for curbside pickup. No donations are accepted until further notice.
