Mobile Learning Winter 2011

The 3rd annual Read-a-Rama events were held in January and February 2011 throughout the service area of United Way of Southwest Minnesota.  "I Love to Read Month" was celebrated with a focus on rhyming!  A child's ability to hear distinct sounds within words is critical to the process of learning to read.  Parents and children had fun learning through rhymes.  At these events they listened to favorite rhyming Imagination Library stories and then participated in activities.

Winter 2011 events were held in Marshall, Lake Benton, Westbrook-Walnut Grove, Canby and Minneota.  Here are some pictures from the various events.  Children were able to participate in a variety of activities including:

  • Matching rhyming cards to pictures on a mat

  • Building a popsicle stick house structure on cookie sheets

  • Using blocks and duplo's to build their own house

  • Finding clothes to pack into a suitcase based on a packing list

  • Matching upper and lower case letter buttons to those on gingerbread men

  • Rolling dice with pictures on and coming up with words that rhyme

  • and many more!
