Helping Hands Fund

Unexpected or unforeseen situations can derail budgets of hard working people.  In 2008-09, the Helping Hands Fund was available to assist people working with families to help them during a period of crisis, especially if that helps them keep their job and provide for their family.

Funds were distributed to the following organizations:  Marshall Area Ministerial Association; Prairie Five Food Shelf in Canby; Tyler Area Food Shelf; Lake Benton Food Shelf; Clarkfield Food shelf; Yellow Medicine Food Shelf; Murray County Food Shelf; and Ivanhoe, Hendricks, Arco Food Shelf.

Success By 6 Initiative

Imagination Library - Currently around 2,400 children (ages birth - five years old) who live in our service area receive an age appropriate, quality book in the mail each month at no cost to their family.  77% of parents responding to surveys tell us that they read daily to their children now that they receive Imagination Library books (as opposed to 56% before receiving the books).  Click here to learn more about this program.

Parent Education - An annual parent education program has been held since March 2008 to help parents gain important parenting tools and to help them feel more confident in their role as parents.  Click here to see what we're up to for this year's event.

Read to Me Newsletters are mailed three times per year to families with children enrolled in Imagination Library.  The newsletters are intended to provide additional parenting tools and to help them feel more confident in their role as parents.  CLICK HERE to access the "Read to Me" archives.

Wild About Kindergarten Bags - Children attending a kindergarten round-up in our area schools receive a special tote bag containing tools to help prepare them for school.  Over 750 children with receive a tote bag this spring.  CLICK HERE to learn more about this project.

Wild About Reading Programs - Starting during the summer of 2008, over 400 children and their parents or caregivers took part in stories, snacks and activities connected to Imagination Library books.  These occurred in various neighborhood parks in communities in this area.  We've continued to offer this program each summer since that time.
